QUINNINUP _ Residence
Currently in concept design.
Nestled among the pines of Western Australia’s South West, this new holiday home is a tribute to a site of deep family significance. Located just a short stroll from the banks of Karri Lake, the design is informed by the client’s decades of summer memories—swimming and gathering by the water.
The plan is arranged in an 'L' configuration to create two distinct areas of public and private spaces and affords each room direct access to the outdoor area. The semi protected outdoor sitting area is nestled into the 'L' configuration and focused around an open fire place. The plan is angled to take advantage of an existing natural break in the trees which reduces the number of trees to be removed and directs the living area towards the bank of the lake.
Designed around passive solar design principles the plan takes advantage of natural sunlight in winter and shading in summer.
A combination of dark zincalume cladding provides a resilient and low maintenance exterior which blends with the surrounding landscape while internally plywood lining creates a lighter and warmer counter point to the external palette.
With a modest budget the overall floor area and materials have been carefully considered without sacrificing comfort.
