NORTH PERTH _ Vertical infill

Completed May 2026 (photos coming soon)

Located on a constrained site in North Perth, this project is a surgical addition to a traditional 1920's four-room cottage. By building upward directly above a 2014 ground-floor living area extension the design preserves precious outdoor space while significantly expanding the home’s functionality and limiting structural demolition work.

 Client Testimonial:

"We met with Michael just once and instantly knew that he was exactly who we wanted to work with.  He understood our brief, had ideas that aligned with our budget constraints and was willing to think originally and outside of the box.  He also looked at our existing home and renovations and designed an addition that was new but complimented our home in every single way.  Michael is also extremely personable, and we felt an immediate sense of trust in Michael's professional integrity and creativity."

In the clients words:
"We loved our location, the home we have built is unique to ourselves and honestly we just felt that we will always be happier staying in the same wonderful location and renovating our home to grow with our family and needs."

The clients Brief:
"We required a primary bedroom, ensuite, wardrobes, yoga & reading space and second story balcony. A sense of space, light and volume that exceeded the actual floor space that we had available,  We also needed the  extension to take advantage of the views from the second story, but provide us with privacy from our neighbors.  I also wanted to be able to see the sky when in bed!"

The clients outcome:
"The space is simply divine - it is calming, so very very open, absolutely maximises all our views, enables the sky to feel bigger and all around us in the space.  The room provides us with privacy, but does not create a sense of separation throughout the house.  It also doesn’t feel “added on” like an afterthought, it very much feels like a part of our home and one we honestly can’t imagine not having it."

La Ditta's thoughts on why this stay in place strategy matters in today's climate:
As construction costs remain high and undertaking a new build expensive more homeowners are rethinking demolish and start again pathway.

Projects like North Perth reflect a broader shift:

  • from speculative upgrades

  • toward long-term, considered investment in the home you already own

Thinking of Staying?
We work with homeowners like Kay & Andrew to test whether adapting your existing home is a smarter move than selling—before design begins.
