WEMBLEY _ Izvor House

completed 2021

A new residential dwelling whose brief required a strong architectural presence, while remaining tightly aligned to a defined construction budget. Located on a difficult site and with quite prescriptive local policy requirements the project was carefully developed with a strong focus on alignment between design intent and construction reality and was ultimately delivered within the initial budget.

The home is crafted around the lifestyle of the family within and planned to be public and private with focus around a central outdoor living area. The frontage is scaled to respect the streetscape and sit comfortably with quiet confidence.

Oh and I'm sure you've been wondering, "Izvor" is Macedonian and loosely translates to 'body of water" a nod to the lake it faces and the heritage of the family it houses.

  • Shortlisted, 2023 WA Architecture Awards:  Residential Houses (New)

  • Shortlisted, 2023 WA Architecture Awards: EmAGN Emerging Architect

"A sophisticated interpretation of the modernist villa... balancing a commanding street presence with a highly resolved, sensory interior."

"very conscious decision" to avoid "upside-down" living. By keeping living areas on the ground floor, the architect achieved a "seamless connection" to the earth, which enhanced the home's "sanctuary" quality"
